The year was 2011

It all started in 2010. But in 2011 the news arrived in my mail box. It was addressed to 'Dear artists' and 'your work has been selected to be showcased' was what it states. So how true it was I wonder.

Looking at the website, it wrote 'Handpicked from over 9000 original works submitted' and 'More than 1000 artist'. Wow...if this was real, my 'art' has been handpicked from over 9000 various mediums of original works that were submitted.

The day came, I went to have a look. Where was my art? It seems that the email was just for advertising purposes meant to attract people to go to their exhibition. But in me there was still some doubt. Doubting that my art might be there, just that I missed it out due to the massive amount of art on showcased.

Few days later, I went for a second time, looking closer to almost every piece of art on display. Where was it I asked again. Not giving up, I went for a second round.

Finally, there it was...

I came to the conclusion as to why I cannot even spot my own piece of art. It was so less attractive then the rest on showcased. It was at a little corner that people might just simply missed out.

But one thing for sure, my art really went on showcased and the mail was real. It was at a tiny corner of ION Orchard from 17 February to 7 March 2011.

Finally, what photo is that? It was taken using Holga with 35mm film. It is a overhead bridge, but I did double exposure, rotating the camera 180 degrees for each of the two shots. It is meant to be landscaped, not portrait. Maybe the experts felt portrait was more interesting? Maybe they thought it was portrait? Maybe it was randomly placed into a portrait space instead of a landscaped space?
