Orchard Turn

The most memorable encounter with this development located along Orchard Turn had actually nothing do with shopping in the mall or staying over in the residential tower. It was actually one (or two) sleepless nights spent on completion of an important assignment. Why was it important? Because it was graded, and the grade contributes to the final grade for that module! Tell any student that an assignment is graded and surely you will see how important that is to them, unless that student had totally given up.

I don't really remember the exact details of assignment . Digging out of what was done is possible, but too troublesome.

I think the year was 2007. The assignment was about creating an A&P package with all that we have learnt, for the shopping mall section. At that time nothing much was revealed about the mall, except some colourful rendering and basic details. It was an open canvas. It was totally up to my group to decide what's going to be in there, and then coming up with an A&P package for the new mall. We named it 'De Continental Turn'.

Eventually the mall was named 'ION Orchard' and opened its doors in 2009. It was something special at that time for a few reasons, one of them being that there are no anchor tenants, not even a single one.

For all I remember, it seems that none of our ideas (or dreams, or predictions) of the then 'upcoming new mall' along Orchard Road came to reality.

Till this date, whenever I looked back at those times, I do wonder: How did I actually stayed up all night long staring at the laptop screen and printer, and maintained my sanity the next day?
