Post-“the future of us”

All will be gone. Nothing will be left. That’s what I thought of that futuristic “the future of us” exhibition as it came to a close in March 2016. But I was absolutely wrong.

The main masterpiece dome- and lattice-shaped aluminium skin-liked structure that links most of the exhibit just didn’t want to go away. It stayed beyond March 2016 and it’s just not going to go anytime soon. Plans has it that it’ll stay for the time being as an event space. The first event after that “future” exhibit will be the upcoming Singapore Garden Festival. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how this structure will be incorporated into the festival.

Although it is indeed a surprise that the structure is staying, I doubt it’ll stay for long-term. After all, it doesn’t look like and feel like a structure that was built to last for, say 20 years. Thus, let’s enjoy while it last.

What’s seriously so intriguing about this structure? First of all, it’s spacious and column-free. It’s said that this structure stands about 4-storeys high (I personally don't think so) and about 4-metres wide.

Secondly, did you know that this structure was created by 11,000 panels where each panel is said to be different from the other? Each uniquely fabricated panels allow light into the structure within, creating unique shadows into the space at different times of the day. Of course, the sun must be out shinning bright for shadows to appear.

It surely sounds like a complicated creation from initial designing to its construction. However, thanks to technology, it is said that this structure was designed and built in less than half a year. And the people behind the design was from our very own Singapore University of Technology and Design Advanced Architecture Laboratory.

Lastly, let’s enjoy its emptiness before all the greens fills up the space.

Here’s a clarification if you’re wondering whether the paragraphs below/above each photograph are actually captions. They’re not. I just so happened without any reason decided to fill the photographs between the paragraphs.
